CNA (Patient care technician) in Outpatient department:
Assists with getting patients ready for surgery and procedures. Transporting patients throughout the hospital and assisting with discharging patients/assisting with helping them get in and out of the car or mode of transportation.
Demonstrates clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. Able to perform
several tasks in an organized manner. Maintains clinical competency appropriate to the
services provided, needs of age groups served, and scope of practice.
Position Specific Competencies:
In addition to the following essential competencies, other competencies may be required to meet
changing organizational needs.
1. Uses appropriate problem-solving approach to perform assigned duties.
2. Provides services with consideration of the physical, psychosocial, cultural/spiritual,
and age-specific needs of those served. Completes assigned patient care as directed by the professional nurse.
3. Uses equipment/supplies correctly.
4. Uses appropriate safety and infection control measures.
5. Teaches and informs others in an appropriate manner within the scope of practice.
6. Reports and records information correctly. Including any change in patient condition or abnormal findings and notify the
professional nurse in a timely manner.
7. Maintain annual unit specific mandatory competencies prior to expiration.
8. Attends and completes required meetings, inservices and competency validation activities.
CNA (Patient Care Technician) Responsibilities:
1. Maintain patient safety and security following HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines.
2. Preserve culture of safety utilizing safety at all times. Comply with safety and infection control policies, procedures, and
recommended practices.
3. Proficient in computer skills to carry out all secretarial duties as well as documentation of patient care.
4. Able to complete all nursing assistant skills according to the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
- Completion of high school or its equivalent.
- Successful completion of North Carolina Board of Nursing certified Nurse Aide II program.
- Current Nursing Assistant II listing with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- Current Nursing Assistant I listing with NC Division of Facilities Services Registry
- Successful completion of a formal cross training program regarding clerical duties.
Certification experience:
Department- specific certification requirements must be achieved with the first year of employment.

BLS, NCI – Maintain certifications prior to renewal date.
